As we take a trip down memory lane of fashion, trends that tend to slip our minds are the trends from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Back in the 1890s many women wore long bell-shaped skirts with loose blouses. These blouses also had puffy sleeves which were quite popular back in those times.
As we move into the 1900s the trend didn't change much until we hit 1910. This was around the time of the birth of flappers. Now, women's dresses are shorter than they were before and cut right around the knee. From this time and on, women's clothing began to change as the decades grew.

Glitz and Glam

During the holiday season, we start to see glitter make a more significant appearance in fashion. Throughout the year glitter makeup has been spotted on runways from New York to Milan but during this time of year more and more people are wearing glitter from head to toe. Heels, dresses, shirts, and many other clothing pieces are covered in glitter and women seem to be loving it. If you want to make yourself stand out, add a little extra sparkle to your outfit. Matching your makeup with your outfit is also a popular trend and you will definitely leave and impression if you add glitter to the mix too.

Strutting Into 2017 in Sneakers

Sneakers were very popular in 2016 and their popularity will continue to increase in 2017. Sneakers are comfortable and versatile. They can be worn casually or for going out. Many designers have started to incorporate different patterns into sneaker designs, such as glitter or animal print which can make them more dressy. Sneakers are a basic piece that everyone should have in their closet and you can never have too many. Whether you're slipping them on to run errands in a pair of jeans and a sweater, or wearing them with a dress and a jacket, they're always super cute!

Out With the Old and In With the New

As the new year rolls around we may begin to notice new fashion trends. As old trends are left in 2016, new ones are in the making of 2017. One trend that we may begin to see decline is extremely tall heels. Now, the main priority for women when it comes to shoes is comfort. Many women don't want to strain their feet and they want something thats easy to wear and match with almost anything as well as something easy to walk in. We may begin to notice smaller heels becoming fairly popular as we get into 2017. Another trend that we will begin to see fade is the skinny jean. Skinny jeans have been popular for as long as I can remember but now we begin to see that more baggier jeans or also known as boyfriend jeans as a popular fashion statement. 2017 will be a year of many fashion changes as well as the birth of many new trends.

Pretty in Plaid

The plaid pattern originated in Scotland, it was previously known as "tartan". The name plaid replaced tartan once the patterns became popular with British and American textile manufacturers who would recreate fabrics that looked like tartans, but without centuries of symbolic meaning embedded in their clothing. Tartan was seen on Scottish kilts. Today plaid can be seen on many fashion trends such as flannels, for example, which are very popular for both men and women. Another plaid trend among girls and young women mainly is the "school-girl" style skirt.

The Haunting History of Heels

Heels can be traced back to ancient Egyptian times, around the second millennium BC. Butchers used to wear heels to avoid stepping on animals after slaughtering them, definitely less glamorous than why they are worn these days. During the European renaissance the high heel became a status symbol worn by both male and females from the higher social statuses. These people were referred to as "well-heeled". Catherine de Medici was the first recorded person to wear high heels as a fashion statement during the 16th century. It is believed that she wore them to impress the French court when she wed the Duke of Orleans, the future king. Since the Second World War, high heels have fallen in and out of popular fashion several times, most notably in the late 1990s, when lower heels and flats predominated the fashion world. So, the next time you put on your favorite heels, try not to think about the animal carcasses they were once used to step on.
